VACRO is seeking women volunteers to support women who are either on community corrections orders or exiting prison. If you are community minded, have life experience and good communication skills, we need you!

VACRO is a non-government, non-denominational organisation whose mission is to provide support and information for individuals charged with a criminal offence, offenders, prisoners and their families; as well as a leadership, education, training and research on the Justice System for the community.

The VACRO Women’s Mentoring Program matches volunteer mentors with women exiting prison and women on community based orders. Mentors provide emotional support, model good communication skills and pro-social behaviour and may assist mentorees with practical tasks related to their reintegration into the community.

The successful applicants will be female and will have:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and liaison skills
  • Some life experience
  • The ability to exhibit a non-judgmental attitude to offending behaviours, whilst at the same time challenging inappropriate behaviours
  • The capacity to (in principle) commit to the program for at least twelve months
  • The capacity to attend monthly supervision meetings
  • The capacity to be assertive and set firm boundaries

We encourage applications from indigenous women and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Training & ongoing support provided.
